Gallatin Veterinary Hospital:

We are the oldest small animal practice in the valley. The practice is currently owned by Dr. Mark Albrecht and staffed by 3 associate veterinarians. At GVH we believe in top quality care and utilize state of the art equipment and medications to ensure your pet is receiving the best care in the valley.

American Animal Hospital Association Certification:

In June of 2009 we voluntarily underwent the rigorous inspection to become AAHA certified and passed to become the first AAHA certified hospital in Bozeman. AAHA is the world's leading association of small animal practitioners, and only 12% of animal care facilities are currently certified. To achieve AAHA distinction, hospitals must pass comprehensive inspections of medical care, management, facilities and medical equipment. We are committed to continuing to meet and exceed AAHA's rigid standards in order to provide the highest quality medical and surgical care.

Location:

In December 2008, we moved to our new location at 1635 Reeves Road East, off of Frontage Road between 7th and 19th. The new location offers more exam rooms, a more functional treatment area and two state of the art surgical suites, as well as digital radiography and, of course, more parking. We have happily settled into our new location and continue to provide exceptional care for your pets.

Hours:

Monday-Thursday: 7:30am-8:00pm
Friday: 7:30am- 5:30pm
Saturday: 9:00am- 2:00pm

We understand that busy schedules can make it difficult to bring your pet in for needed care, so we offer evening and weekend hours. We also offer the option of dropping off your pet in the morning, and picking up in the afternoon or evening (a small fee may apply.) Please call us at (406) 587-4458 for available appointments.

Appointments:

We see patients by appointment to ensure sufficient time for each pet. Although we accept walk-ins, we recommend calling to schedule an appointment to minimize your time waiting for a veterinarian.

Fees:

Fees charged for services are based on amounts needed to maintain the high quality of care we are proud to provide. Payment is required at the time services are rendered. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, cash or check. We also offer a medical credit plan known as CareCredit. More information on CareCredit can be found here.

Our Doctors:

A native of North Dakota, Dr. Mark Albrecht attended Colorado State University, receiving his DVM in 1992. He then did a rotating small animal internship at the University of Missouri, followed by a 3 year small animal surgery residency at the University of Minnesota. He opened a referral surgery practice in Montana's Bitterroot valley in 1996. He left in the late 90's to help open the surgical portion of a specialty practice in Omaha NE, leaving there to serve as a staff surgeon at Denver's Alameda East Clinic. Alameda East is home to Animal Planet's "ER VETS"' and Dr. Albrecht appeared in several episodes. He returned to Montana in 2000 and spent over 5 years as a traveling surgeon servicing western Montana. In late 2006, he purchased Gallatin Veterinary Hospital. He currently owns the general practice (Gallatin Veterinary Hospital) and the referral surgery practice (Montana Veterinary Surgical Service P.C.)

He has been selected by Arthrex as a leader in surgery, and is involved in orthopedic research. Currently he has been asked to teach other veterinarians the tightrope technique for cranial cruciate stabilization. These classes are being held at several locations across the country and help veterinarians meet their continuing education requirements. He was also asked to present at the Veterinary Arthrology and Arthroscopy Association meeting in August 2008. Dr Albrecht is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Montana Veterinary Medical Association, the Veterinary Orthopedic Society and the Veterinary Arthrology and Arthroscopy Association.

Dr. Kari Swenson graduated from Colorado State University Veterinary School in 1990. Kari loves the outdoors and spends time with her husband hiking, skiing, camping, and horseback riding. She is devoted to promoting the special relationship between pets and their humans. Her interests are internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, dermatology, general wellness, geriatric screening and healthy pet education. Dr. Swenson is planning to get further education and specialty training in ultrasonography and periodontics. Currently, Dr. Swenson is one of seven PennHip certified vets in the state of Montana.

Dr. Dawn McDonald has been with the hospital since October 2004. She graduated from the University of California at Davis Veterinary School, during which time she did extensive work at animal shelters and with groups providing veterinary care on Native American reservations. She is especially interested in senior care, athletic dogs and cancer treatments/chemotherapy. In her spare time, Dawn enjoys spending time with her husband, and beautiful daughter Brooklyn, and 4 dogs as well as playing ice hockey, snowboarding, mountain biking, camping and hiking.

Dr. Colin Bonnett was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska. He graduated from Washington State University's School of Veterinary Medicine in early 2009.
