All puppies have growth plates at the ends of their bones which allow the bone to grow. One such growth plate is called the capital physis or growth plate of the head of the femur bone. This head forms the so-called “ball” of the hip joint.  If a growth plate is fractured, surgery is needed for the leg to grow and form correctly.

Henry arrived at Gallatin Veterinary Hospital needing surgery to fix the fracture but his family had limited funds so they thought they would have to let their much loved companion go. Fortunately, thanks to all of our clients who are part of our Wellness Reward Program we were able to help out  Henry.

With every purchase a Reward Member makes they earn 10% back on their card and Gallatin Veterinary Hospital donates 2% of the total to the Veterinary Care Foundation (VCF).  VCF is a non-profit organization that helps provide funds for patients with a good prognosis. When a patient meets certain criteria, we can apply to the foundation asking them assist us with the cost of part of the surgery. Henry met the criteria and funding for a portion of the surgery was provided.

Henry’s surgery took place on August 28th, 2013 and his owner’s report that the only problem they are having now is keeping him calm and contained!

THANK YOU to all who helped make this possible!
